SEO Friendly Website Design Guidelines
2. Offer a site map to your users with links that point to the important parts of your site. If the site map is larger than 100 or so links, you may want to break the site map into separate pages.
Eg: To create a file sitemap, sitemap1...etc.
3. Make a detailed sitemap of a website. The search robots can easily go to any web page from this web page.
4. Try to use text instead of images to display important names, content, or links. The Google crawler doesn't recognize text contained in images
5. Every image on your website has an alt attribute with a description that contains keywords. Eg: alt=”web design company”
6. Do not overuse image in a web page. The robots can’t index images and it also takes lot of time to load a web page.
7. Make sure that your title elements and alt attributes are descriptive and accurate.
8. SEO Tips for URL Structure
a. Make sure to use keywords in url, if the particular page is "software consulting" then try to create a URL that looks like .
http://www.example.com/software-consulting.html
b. If you decide to use dynamic pages (i.e., the URL contains a "?" character), be aware that not every search engine spider crawls dynamic pages as well as static pages. It helps to keep the parameters short and the number of them few.
In correct Format:
http://www.example.com/products/products.asp?N=200063&Ne=500955&ref=foo%2Cbar&Cn=Accessories
Correct Format
http://www.example.com/product.asp?N=Accessories
c. Creating a website folder and webpage name in url structure.
Make sure to avoid using of Underscore ( _ ). Better way to use Hyphen ( - ).
In correct Format:
http://www.example.com/it_software_consulting.html
Correct Format:
http://www.example.com/it-software-consulting.html
d. Make sure to avoid multiple folders using in url structure.
In correct Format:
Eg: http://www:example/web_services/ web_design/logo_design /flash logo design.html
Correct Format:
http://www.example/web-services/flash-logo-design.html.
9. If you use image links, you also provide text links so that search engine robots can crawl inside your web site and index every page of your site.
10. Don't use more than two banners per web page. Banners are often placed at the top of a web page. Unfortunately, Search engine consider the beginning of a web page as very important.
11. Always place the logo on the upper left hand corner of the web page. The search engine robots reads the web page like a human from left to right, top to bottom.
12. You should not use All CAPS or or similar font design, like all boldface. This looks as if you were yelling at your users.
13. Your web pages end with .html or .htm. When your web pages end with .asp, cfm or contain special character, many search engines will ignore them.
14. All important web page of your website should be just one click away.
15. You don't use unusual fonts. For example, font face="Great Looking" size="2"
is very likely to cause problems. Common fonts are Verdana, Arial and Helvetica.
16. Test your site to make sure that it appears correctly in different browsers.
17. Create a useful, information-rich site, and write pages that clearly and accurately describe your content.
18. Think about the words users would type to find your pages, and make sure that your site actually includes those words within it. (Content, url structure, image and links).
19. The content on your website must be easy to read and error free.
20. It should be easy to see what your website is all about. Editors don't search for information.
21. Do not use frames in your website design. Lot of frames in a website also takes too long loading time and hence the robots find it difficult to crawl the website. i.e. can follow from a frameset page to content frames and index texts. If your Web site consists of frames, and you cannot redesign it, you can solve this problem by putting the content of an optimized page with links to other pages into a NOFRAMES HTML tag.
22. The page size must not be too large, average page size must be below 50 kb
23. Try to maintain a word limit for all the web pages. Use about 350 to 600 words for each web page.
24. Avoid using image navigation, as it is not search engine friendly. It is ideal to use text navigation in a web page as it helps the user as well as search engines to navigate smoothly.
25. Try to avoid using tables. There are too many codes in tables and takes times to load page. Hence, try to use DIVs structure, which has less coding and takes less loading time. It has become highly search engine friendly because the robots can easily index it.
26. Use External CSS rather than coding it in the main source file.
27. Once you complete the full design to check broken links having or not.
28. Please make sure to check w3c validation error and clear error free

Submission Guidelines
Search Engine Rules
• Please enter your full URL, including the http:// prefix. For example: http://www.example.com/.
• Metadata (including title and description) that accurately describes the contents of a web page.
• If you choose to submit your site, only the top-level domain is necessary, as the spiders can follow your internal links to the rest of the pages.
• You do not need to submit each individual page
• Crawlers like Googlebot, MSNBot will be able to find the rest.
• Google updates its index on a regular basis, so updated or outdated link submissions are not necessary.
• Dead links will 'fade out' of our index on our next crawl when we update our entire index.
Search Engine Rules - Things to Avoid
• Don't just list keyword after keyword in the title or description. And, don't use an abundance of marketing hype in your title or description.
• Don't create a description that goes on and on and on. A few sentences are fine, but don't make it any longer than that
• Don't put your title and description in ALL CAPS.
• Don't submit your site until it's ready for traffic and has recently been updated. Sites with a huge "under construction" sign on the first page and little else aren't ready for traffic.
• Don't submit pages of your site to every single category that you can possibly think of that halfway pertains to your site. Keep in mind that the editors write notes to other editors about certain sites. The last thing you want is for a bunch of editors to make comments such as, "too many submissions," or even worse, "spamming the index."
• Don't submit your site every single day (or every other day) until it's accepted. If your site isn't indexed in three weeks, then submit it again, taking time to submit it properly.
• If your site is only one page, work on it some more. Build original content! Create some interior pages before you submit.
Guidelines for Directory Submission
Rules to Follow
• Before submitting your website URL, Do a quick search at the top of any directory page by simply typing your Domain name (example.com), then click the Search button.
• Identify the single best category for your site. The Directory has an enormous array of subjects to choose from. You should submit a site to the single most relevant category. Sites submitted to inappropriate or unrelated categories may be rejected or removed.
• Note: Some categories do not have "suggest URL" or "Add URL" links. These categories don't accept submissions, so you should find a more specific category for your site.
• Once you've selected the best category for your site, go directly to that category on that directory and then click "suggest URL or Add link ". Follow the instructions on the submission form carefully.
• Descriptions of sites should describe the content of the site concisely and accurately. They should not be promotional in nature. Submitting a promotional description rather than an objective, well written description may significantly delay your site from being listed or prevent your site from being listed at all.
• Titles and descriptions must not contain promotional language such as: the best; greatest; the only; etc. Keep your title and description brief and well written. Poorly written titles, descriptions or lists of keywords will not be permitted.
• Write a descriptive Title and Description – imagine that you are a potential customer browsing for a website – what would you look for?
• Use correct English to describe your site and check your grammar and spelling.
• The submitted link must point to your home page only.
• First determine whether your url is appropriate for submission to that specified Directory
Rules to avoid
• Do not submit sites that have too many keywords and are created specially for Search Engines
• Do not submit mirror sites. Mirror sites are sites that contain identical content, but have altogether different URLs.
• Do not submit URLs that contain only the same or similar content as other sites you may have listed in the directory. Sites with overlapping and repetitive content are not helpful to users of the directory. Multiple submissions of the same or related sites may result in the exclusion and/or deletion of those and all affiliated sites.
• Do not disguise your submission and submit the same URL more than once.
• Do not submit any site with an address that redirects to another address.
• Do not submit sites "under construction." Wait until a site is complete before submitting it. Sites that are incomplete, contain "Under Construction" notices, or contain broken graphics or links aren't good candidates for the directory.
• Do not submit website(s) that use cloaking.
• Don't submit sites consisting largely of affiliate links.
• Do not submit sites with popup windows and other technologies that interfere with viewing the main content of the site.
• SEO Spamy: Sites that use spamy blackhat SEO tactics will not be permitted. Webmaster discretion advised.
• The site must have a regular and correct URL, not an IP, but only a URL.
• Do not submit sites that are under construction. Make sure that all images and links on your site work properly.
• Don't stuff your title and description with keywords - they will either be deleted, or your submission will be rejected.
• Do not submit sites that redirect visitors to another site
• Auto-submission software is (and always has been) a violation of this procedure. Sites submitted automatically are flagged and deleted after the submission is accepted, without notification to you. Persistent automatic submission may force us to ban you from the directory site.
Once your site has been accepted into the Open Directory, it may take anywhere from 2 weeks to several months for your site to be listed on partner sites which use the Open Directory data, such as AOL Search, AltaVista, HotBot, Google, Lycos, Netscape Search, etc

Users consistently abusing this will be warned.

Link Exchange Rules & Guidelines
• All links must be from completely different sites.
• Always try to exchange link with same category sites.
• All pages containing the link must be indexed & crawled by Google & be greater than or equal to our website.
• Always try to exchange links with high Page Rank sites.
• You must check that the link can be spidered.
• Linking sites have to be spider friendly. You must make sure that the site does not have the "no follow" attribute or other robot tags that will not enable the spider to crawl the site.
• All links must be on actual functional websites i.e. not from guestbook’s, fake article submissions, forum signatures, classified adverts, pages/links that will expire after a certain time (ads, review pages etc.)
• Links obtained must be from different class c domains/IP addresses. Getting one site to link to ours on 100 of its pages is not acceptable. Also, getting links on a network that has 100 sites each with the same content and/or similar IPs (212.100.39.41, 212.100.39.42, 212.100.39.43 etc.) is not acceptable.
• Links must be on English sites from primarily English speaking countries. We would prefer US sites.
• The pages linking to the site should already be included in other search engines to rule out any bad neighborhoods/banned pages. Rule of thumb will be that if the page has Google Page Rank assigned and has a cached version of the page showing from Google then it is acceptable.
• Be sure that your link pages are search engine friendly. Link pages are easier indexed if they have no more than 25 links per page.
• You will ensure that the links contain the correct anchor text, that the url is typed correctly and resolves to the correct page that I will provide for you.
• Your link exchange page must be a NON-DYNAMIC web page.
• All links must be on sites and pages that are topically related to the site promoted or listed in Main Directories.
Rules to avoid
• Do not exchange link with non-related site.
• Do not exchange link that have PR0 OR PR1 OR banned site.
• Do not exchange link with adult site, gambling, sex or hacking related sites.
• Do not put more then 30 links in a reciprocal link exchange page,If Google found more then 30 outgoing links, Google will treat you as spammer OR link firm.
• The links should not use a redirect code of any kind (JavaScript, Meta, 302 etc.) to link to our site - only clean links with href="http://www.mydomain.com" as the code will be acceptable.
• You will be provided with the title, description, keywords and target URL for this project. Links that use just the web address or “click here” are not acceptable.
• Your website must not be a "banner or link farm" with no other unique content.
• Do not deal in excessive link exchanges - Google looks at this as another link scheme and though I believe that it isn’t as dangerous as getting caught buying/selling links if Google says it can negatively impact your site’s ranking then it can.
• You will not get more than 10 links from sites that are owned by a single person, group or company.
• Links from orphan or doorway pages, link farms specifically created for links exchange are not acceptable.

Link Exchange

Link Exchange ("Reciprocal Link Exchange") is the practice of exchanging links with other websites. The simplest way of doing it is to email another website owner and ask to do a link exchange. You place their link on your site, usually on a links page and the other site in return will place a link back to you.
- Exchange links with sites that are related by topic. Exchanging links with unrelated sites is ineffective and unpopular.
- Before exchanging, make sure that your link will be published on a “good” page. This means that the page must have a reasonable Page Rank (higher is recommended), it must be available for indexing by search engines, the link must be direct, the total number of links on the page must not exceed 100, and so on.
- Do not create large link directories on your site. The idea of such a directory seems attractive because it gives you an opportunity to exchange links with many sites on various topics. You will have a topic category for each listed site.
- Use a separate page on the site for link exchanges. It must have a reasonable Page Rank and it must be indexed by search engines
- Exchange links with caution. Webmasters who are not quite honest will often remove your links from their resources after a while. Check your back links from time to time.
Link Exchange Advantages:
1. Increase page rank
2. Improves search engine rankings
3. Increase link popularity
4. Increses traffic
Active Link Exchange
Active Link Exchange means we are doing work actively for getting link for our website. In Active Link Exchange we are doing three types of link exchange.
1. One Way Link Exchange

one way link exchange we are getting one way link from other website, but we are not giving a link to the other website, that is called as a one way link exchange. To get one way links from Directories Submission, Blog Posting, Article Posting, Press Release Submission and Social Bookmarking
2. Two Way Link Exchange

Two way link exchange is also known as a Reciprocal Link Exchange. Reciprocal Link Exchange is doing on the basis of mutual understand of two potential link partners. In Reciprocal Link Exchange potential link partners place a link of our website and in return we have to place link of potential link partners on our website. Reciprocal Link Exchange is good for getting listing of our website in Google
3. Three Way link Exchange

Three way link exchange, we can do when we have a 2 websites. In three way link exchange we are offer for placing a link of potential link partners to our popular site A. and in return we asking to potential link partners for placing a link of our Site C on their Site B. (Site B means potential link partners). Three way link exchange is very effective link exchange. The main benefit of three way link exchange is that we are getting a one way link from potential link partners
Passive link exchange
Passive link exchange means it is a link exchange, in which we are not doing link exchange actively for our website. But we are getting links from other potential link partners without offering a proposal for link exchange. Link Bait is part of passive link exchange.
1. Link Baiting
Link Bait means Useful or entertaining web content which compels users to link to it. So if your website has a unique and useful content then other potential link partners place the link of your website on their website without offering any proposal for link exchange.

Google Page Rank

PageRank is actually a trademarked term. The trademark belongs to Google Inc. and refers to the "rank" of a website as determined by Google's ranking system. It is based on the number of "votes" other websites cast for your website. A "vote" is simply when another website places a link on their website that is pointing to your website. Generally, the more "votes" or links you have pointing to your website, the higher your Page Rank (PR) will be. Page rank is calculated by the inbound link the page is getting. The Ranking started with 0 to 10.

Seo Design Tips
The following web site design tips will help you to obtain a higher ranking on search engines.
1. Your web site must have content. Content is the most important thing for search engines. Much more important than META tags. Be sure that you have content on your web site that search engines can read. That means that you have to use more text and fewer images.
2. The content on your web site must be easy to read and error free. Internet directory editors don't like web sites with mistakes.
3. It should be easy to see what your web site is all about. Editors don't search for information.
4. If you use image links, you also provide text links so that search engine robots can crawl inside your web site and index every page of your site.
5. You don't use a redirection as the entry page to your web site. Most search engines fear to be spammed by redirections.
6. Your web site uses very little Flash effects, JavaScript and other scripting. Search engines have problems with that information.
7. Your web pages end with .html or .htm. When your web pages end with .asp, .cfm or contain special characters, many search engines will ignore them.
8. Every image on your web site has an alt attribute with a description that contains keywords.
9. Don't use more than two banners per web page. Banners are often placed at the top of a web page. Unfortunately, search engines consider the beginning of a web page as very important.
10. All important web pages of your web site should be just one click away.
11. You don't use unusual fonts. For example, is very likely to cause problems. Common fonts are Verdana, Arial and Helvetica.
12. Your web site does not use frames. Many search engines still have problems with frames.
13. Your are not using ALL CAPS or similar font design, like all boldface. This looks as if you were yelling at your users.
14. Your java applets work with every browser under Mac OS and Windows.
15. Your web site is NOT under construction.
16. You have your own domain. That indicates that your business is here to stay and that it is worth indexing it.
17. Other quality web sites link to your web site.
18. Your web site is easy to understand. It is designed with the user in mind.
Your web site is interesting, has something to offer for your target audience, everything is working without errors, it has no broken links and it loads fast.
Common mistakes in web page design
Some search engines see the web the same way someone using a very old browser might. They cannot read image maps. They cannot read frames. You need to anticipate these problems, or a search engine may not index any or all of your web pages.
1. Avoid using image maps
Designers often create image map links from the home page to inside pages. Most search engines do not understand image maps so they cannot follow the links of your home page. Unfortunately, the most descriptive, relevant pages are often inside branch pages rather than the home page.
You can easily solve this problem by adding some HTML links to the home page. This is a strategy that will benefit your human visitors as well. If you put the HTML links down at the bottom of the page, the search engine will find them and follow them.
Also consider making a site map page with text links to everything in your web site. You can submit this page, which will help the search engines locate additional pages within your web site.
2. Avoid Frames When Possible
Some of the major search engines cannot follow frame links. Make sure there is an alternative method for them to enter and index your site, either through Meta tags or smart design.
3. Avoid Dynamic Pages
Expect that some of the search engines won't be able to index web pages that are generated by CGI scripts or by a database. Consider creating static pages whenever possible, perhaps using the database to update the pages, not to generate them on the fly. Also, avoid symbols in your URLs, especially the "?" symbol. Search engines tend to ignore such pages.
4. Search engine spamming will affect your web site position
Spamming does not work with search engines. Most likely, it will backfire to you. More and more search engines are able to detect spam attempts and penalize or ban your page from their listings.
Also, search engine spamming attempts usually center on being top ranked for extremely popular keywords. You can try and fight that battle against other sites, but then be prepared to spend a lot of time each week, if not each day, defending your ranking. That effort usually would be better spent on networking and alternative forms of publicity.
Sites that spam search engines degrade the value of search engine listings. As the problem grows, these sites may face the same backlash that spam mail generates. The content of most web pages ought to be enough for search engines to determine relevancy without webmasters having to resort to repeating keywords for no reason other than to try and "beat" other web pages. The stakes will simply keep rising, and users will also begin to hate sites that undertake these measures.

In the contrary case, it will be preferable to propose various versions of the site rather than to insert paragraphs in several languages there.
2. Other formats that the HTML: Generally, our robots do not index the sites whose page is made in Flash. The solution is to bring a version HTML of the page. Indeed, one never should lose sight of the fact that the "robots" index only contents HTML.

Top Search Engines Details
GOOGLE.COM Google, a popular search engine, is a tool for finding resources on the World Wide Web. Google scans web pages to find instances of the keywords you have entered in the search box. Google is a fully automated search engine that employs robots known as "spiders" to crawl the web and find sites for inclusion in the Google index. Since this process doesn't involve human editors, it's NOT necessary to submit your site to Google in order to be included in our index. In fact, the vast majority of sites listed aren't manually submitted for inclusion. The best way to ensure that Google finds your site is to have pages on other relevant sites to link to yours. Google's robots jump from page to page on the web via hyperlinks, so the more sites that link to your pages, the more likely it is that we'll find them quickly. Design and Content Guidelines: 1. Make a site with a clear hierarchy and text links. Every page should be reachable from at least one static text link. 2. Offer a site map to your users with links that point to the important parts of your site. If the site map is larger than 100 or so links, you may want to break the site map into separate pages. 3. Create a useful, information-rich site, and write pages that clearly and accurately describe your content. 4. Think about the words users would type to find your pages, and make sure that your site actually includes those words within it. 5. Try to use text instead of images to display important names, content, or links. The Google crawler doesn't recognize text contained in images. 6. Make sure that your TITLE and ALT tags are descriptive and accurate. 7. Check for broken links and correct HTML. 8. If you decide to use dynamic pages (i.e., the URL contains a "?" character), be aware that not every search engine spider crawls dynamic pages as well as static pages. It helps to keep the parameters short and the number of them few. 9. Keep the links on a given page to a reasonable number (fewer than 100). Reference: http://www.google.com/webmasters/guidelines.html Submission: Free Submission: Google Add URL page to input your URLs. You can submit your site as often as you like, but multiple submissions won't improve the likelihood of your site being added or accelerate the process. We don't penalize sites for "over-submitting." If you choose to submit your site, only the top-level domain is necessary, as the spiders can follow your internal links to the rest of the pages. Reference: http://www.google.com/webmasters/1.html Paid Submission: Google doesn't accept payment for inclusion (known as "paid inclusion") of sites in our index, nor for improving the rank of sites in our results. We do offer advertising opportunities adjacent to our results, which are always clearly labeled "Sponsored Links." The method by which we find pages and rank them as search results is determined by many different factors, including the PageRank technology. In the Google AdWords program, the cost of your campaigns really depends on you -- how much you're willing to pay and how well you know your audience. It all boils down to knowing your own goals and letting us know what they are. There is a nominal, one-time activation fee for Google AdWords. After that, you pay only for clicks on your keyword-targeted AdWords ads, or for impressions on your site-targeted AdWords ads. You can control your costs by telling us how much you're willing to pay per click or per impression and by setting a daily budget for spending. For example, a new advertiser paying in USD can activate his/her AdWords account with just US$5.00, and can then choose a maximum cost-per-click (CPC) from US$0.01 - US$100. Daily budgets start as low as 1 cent up to whatever limit the advertiser is comfortable spending. Site-targeted ads require a minimum CPM price of US$0.25, or the local currency equivalent, per 1000 impressions. Reference: http://adwords.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=6382 Time Taken to Index: Getting listed in Google can either be very quick (under 2 weeks) or very long (several months) depending on their crawl schedule and how many other websites are in queue to be indexed before yours. Reference: http://www.submitcorner.com/Guide/SE/google.shtml YAHOO.COM The Yahoo! Directory is organized by subject. Most sites in it are suggested to us by users. Sites are placed in categories by Yahoo! editors, who visit and evaluate your suggestions and decide where the sites best belong. We do this to ensure that Yahoo! is organized in the best possible way, making the directory easy to use, intuitive, helpful, and fair to everyone. Reference: http://docs.yahoo.com/info/suggest/ Since Yahoo! does not use robots, everything indexed into Yahoo! is done by people. No META tags, ALT image tags, HTML comments or image maps will help boost your ranking here. The best chance on getting your site listed is to describe your website as accurate as possible. Reference: http://www.submitcorner.com/Guide/SE/yahoo.shtml Here are a few tips that can help your page be found by a focused search on the Internet: 1 Think carefully of the key terms that your users will search on to find content like yours. Use those terms to guide the text and construction of your page. 2. Users are more likely to click a link if the title matches their search. Choose terms for the title that match the concept of your document. 3. Use a "description" meta-tag and write your description accurately and carefully. After the title, the description is the most important draw for users. Make sure the document title and description attract the interest of the user but also fit the content on your site. 4. Use a "keyword" meta-tag to list key words for the document. Use a distinct list of keywords that relate to the specific page on your site instead of using one broad set of keywords for every page. 5. Keep relevant text and links in HTML. Placing them in graphics or image maps means search engines can't always search for the text, and the crawler can't follow links to your site's other pages. An HTML site map, with a link from your welcome page, can help make sure all your pages are crawled. 6. Use ALT text for graphics. It's good page design to accommodate text browsers or visually impaired visitors, and it helps improve the text content of your page for search purposes. 7. Correspond with webmasters and other content providers and build rich linkages between related pages. Reference: http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/ysearch/ranking/ranking-02.html Pages Yahoo! Wants Included in its Index 1. Original and unique content of genuine value 2. Pages designed primarily for humans, with search engine considerations secondary 3. Good web design in general Reference: http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/ysearch/basics/basics-18.html Many factors influence whether a particular web site appears in Web Search results and where it falls in the ranking. These factors can include: 1. the number of other sites linking to it 2. the content on the pages 3. the updates we make to our database 4. the testing of new product versions 5. the discovery of additional sites 6. changes to the search algorithm --and other factors. Search results pages and within selected Directory categories. This program uses a performance-based model in which businesses bid for enhanced placement in search results on terms that are relevant to their business, and pay on a per-click basis. Yahoo! Directory Submit is part of a suite of services Yahoo! created to serve the needs of businesses like yours. Yahoo! Directory Submit provides expedited review of web sites you submit for possible inclusion in the Yahoo! Directory. They will respond to our request within 7 business days. For web sites that do not feature adult content or services, the Yahoo! Directory Submit service costs US$299 (nonrefundable) for each Directory listing that is submitted. Furthermore, for each listing accepted into the Directory, there is a recurring annual fee of US$299 to maintain the listing in the Directory for the subsequent year. For sites that include adult content or services, the nonrefundable initial fee is US$600 and the recurring annual fee is US$600. The higher cost for sites with adult content reflects the fact that Yahoo! directory team uses a more complex and time-intensive review process for sites offering adult content and/or services. Important note: Use of the Yahoo! Directory Submit program does not ensure that your submission will be accepted for inclusion in the Yahoo! Directory. Reference: https://ecom.yahoo.com/dir/reference/cost Time Taken: Yahoo! Search crawls the web every 2-4 weeks and automatically finds new content for indexing. If pages already in the Yahoo! It is constructed and maintained by a vast, global community of volunteer editors. The ODP is a Web directory, not a search engine. Although we offer a search query, the purpose of the ODP is to list and categorize web sites. We do not rank, promote or optimize sites for search engines. The ODP is simply a data provider. ODP data users, such as AOL, Netscape and Google, install their own search functionality on their site. The ODP has no influence or knowledge on how these search engines process search queries. Reference: http://dmoz.org/help/geninfo.html Get Good Rank: Since ODP is powered completely on editors who are experts in their categories, everything indexed into ODP is done by people. No META tags, ALT image tags, HTML comments or image maps will help boost your ranking here. Your best chance on getting your site listed is to describe your website as accurate as possible. Reference: http://www.submitcorner.com/Guide/SE/odp.shtml Determine whether a site is appropriate for submission to the ODP: 1. Do not submit mirror sites. Mirror sites are sites that contain identical content, but have altogether different URLs. 2. Do not submit URLs that contain only the same or similar content as other sites you may have listed in the directory. Sites with overlapping and repetitive content are not helpful to users of the directory. Multiple submissions of the same or related sites may result in the exclusion and/or deletion of those and all affiliated sites. 3. Do not disguise your submission and submit the same URL more than once.4. Example: http://www.dmoz.org/ and http://www.dmoz.org/index.html 5. Do not submit any site with an address that redirects to another address. ] 6. The Open Directory has a policy against the inclusion of sites with illegal content. Examples of illegal material include child pornography; libel; material that infringes any intellectual property right; and material that specifically advocates, solicits or abets illegal activity (such as fraud or violence). 7. Do not submit sites "under construction." Wait until a site is complete before submitting it. Sites that are incomplete, contain "Under Construction" notices, or contain broken graphics or links aren't good candidates for the directory. 8. Submit pornographic sites to the appropriate category under Adult. 9. Submit non-English sites to the appropriate category under World. 10. Don't submit sites consisting largely of affiliate links. Reference: http://help.lycos.com/search/ls_q_6_10.asp Although we cannot guarantee your placement within search results for particular keywords, the following tips will help you to ensure that your pages are spider friendly: 1. Write great content that human searchers would understand and do not try to trick the Search Engine's algorithms. 2. Use keywords that searchers use to find your web site in the meta-data. Use your web logs to determine the keywords. Don't guess! 3. Make sure your web content mentions those keywords near the top of the page. For instance, place the keywords in the headline or in the first paragraph on the page. 4. Repeat keywords more than once within your web page, but don't over do it. Too much repetition is considered spam. 5. Lycos now offers instant spidering of your site. Don't bother registering every page in your site individually, unless you're really anxious. (Our spiders will automatically register all additional screens shortly after your home page.) Once you register with Lycos, your site will be spidered immediately. However, it will not be immediately available on Lycos. We receive thousands of URL's every day making us the most comprehensive service available. Altavista will not tolerate websites that try to "spam" their index with the same page over and over (ie: too many doorway pages will get you blacklisted). Additionally, repeating words often in your META tags may get your site demoted or removed from Altavista's index. 3. Altavista supports full page indexing which includes all ALT image tags, image maps, and frames. In addition, any in-line text and actual content on your pages are indexed with the exception of HTML comments. Also, upper and lower case are recognized differently with Altavista, so select your keywords with care. 4. Refernce: http://www.fingertek.com/submit.htm http://www.submitcorner.com/Guide/SE/excite.shtml Time taken : Getting listed in Excite takes about 2-4 weeks Reference : http://www.submitcorner.com/Guide/SE/excite.shtml MSN.COM MSN Search website ranking is completely automated. The MSN Search ranking algorithm analyzes factors such as web page content, the number and quality of websites that link to your pages, and the relevance of your website’s content to keywords. Design Consideration : The best way to attract people to your site, and keep them coming back, is to design your pages with valuable content that your target audience is interested in. 1. In the visible page text, include words users might choose as search query terms to find the information on your site. Limit all pages to a reasonable size. We recommend one topic per page. An HTML page with no pictures should be under 150 KB. 2. Make sure that each page is accessible by at least one static text link. 3. Keep the text that you want indexed outside of images. For example, if you want your company name or address to be indexed, make sure it is displayed on your page outside of a company logo. 4. Add a site map. This enables MSNBot to find all of your pages easily. Links embedded in menus, list boxes, and similar elements are not accessible to web crawlers unless they appear in your site map. 5.Keep your site hierarchy fairly flat. That is, each page should only be one to three clicks away from the home page. Reference : http://search.msn.com/docs/siteowner.aspx?t=SEARCH_WEBMASTER_REF_GuidelinesforOptimizingSite.htm#C Technical recommendations for your website : 1. Use only well-formed HTML code in your pages. Ensure that all tags are closed, and that all links function properly. If your site contains broken links, MSNBot may not be able to index your site effectively, and people may not be able to reach all of your pages. 2. If you move a page, set up the page's original URL to direct people to the new page, and tell them whether the move is permanent or temporary. For more information, see What to do when your site moves. 3. Make sure MSNBot is allowed to crawl your site and is not on your list of web crawlers that are prohibited from indexing your site. 4. Use a robots.txt file or meta tags to control how MSNBot and other web crawlers index your site. The robots.txt file tells web crawlers which files and folders it is not allowed to crawl. The Web Robots Pages provide detailed information on the robots.txt Robots Exclusion standard. This site may be available in English only. 5. Keep your URLs simple and static. Complicated or frequently changed URLs are difficult to use as link destinations. For example, the URL www.example.com/mypage is easier for MSNBot to crawl and for people to type than a long URL with multiple extensions. Also, a URL that doesn't change is easier for people to remember, which makes it a more likely link destination from other sites. Refernce: http://search.msn.com/docs/siteowner.aspx?t=SEARCH_WEBMASTER_REF_GuidelinesforOptimizingSite.htm#A Time Taken: If your site has recently been posted, or you have made changes to your site, it may take several weeks for your updates to appear in MSN Search results. Submitting your site does not guarantee that your site will be indexed. But it does help us locate your site so that MSNBot can try to crawl it.
